Ion was doomed to never reach adulthood, but--unlike many residents of Auldrant--he came to realize this long before it was to happen. Ion was born in the country of Malkuth, the son of peasants devoted to the Score. When he was read his birthday Score, Ion was foretold to be the next Fon Master after the current one, Evenos. His parents, so devoted to the teachings of the Order, allowed him to be swept away and brought to Daath, where he would be reared as the next Fon Master.

As the future Fon Master, Ion was forced to grow up very quickly and learned everything about the Order and its inner workings. An observer by nature, Ion realized just how arrogant and self-absorbed many members of the Order were, and just how dark the reputation of the Oracle Knights was within the Order. During his time as the Fon Master, Ion slowly began reforming the Oracle Knights so that they were not an assassination squad to be used in the name of the Score.

Ion was around Van the majority of his life and knew nothing of his bitterness over the destruction of Hod. Van helped Ion become a competent martial artist for self-defense purposes, to the chagrin of the Maestros. As the Fon Master, Ion is an accomplished Seventh Fonist and can both read the Score and heal. At a young age, he also learned and mastered the Daathic fonic artes associated with the Fon Master.

Ion learned very early on that he was fated to die shortly after turning 12 years old, and he quietly attempted to accept his early death; he became very detached from those around him, believing he only functioned for the ends of the Order. However, Van took the opportunity to tell Ion of the Seventh Fonstone and the foretold destruction of mankind, which led to Ion's frustration with the Score. Ion eventually brought the idea to Van that, if the world was fated to be destroyed by the Score, replicas could be used to build a new world.

When he was almost six years old, Ion first began meeting Arietta with Van's help; Van had brought to his attention that a wild girl was living on the Isle of Feres and he wanted to meet her. Intrigued by Arietta's innocence and sheer contrast to the members of the Order, Ion invited her to live in Daath and trained her as his Fon Master Guardian. To make Arietta as comfortable as possible, Ion allowed her monsters to roam around and in Daath.

As he lay dying from a serious illness sometime after his twelfth birthday, Ion suggested that Van and Grand Maestro Mohs create a replica of himself to be a puppet while they began working on creating the replica world. Ion died shortly after Van and Mohs had confirmed a proper replica (the seventh Ion) had been created, and his body was taken to Mt. Zaleho along with the "failed" replicas to be gotten rid of.

Ion is a rational and strong-minded individual, but he has been known to show surprising amounts of kindness; the best example would be his treatment of Arietta. As the Fon Master, he is used to his leadership position and is a fairly good judge of character. (I say "fairly" because he trusted Mohs, who aspired to be the next Fon Master. >_>)

He arrives in Avoria on his twelfth birthday, before the symptoms of the illness that would kill him have developed.

Addendum: I began RPing ori!Ion before the manga released the backstory between him and Arietta, so his personality is considerably different from "canon."
